School history
Roosevelt holds a special place in New Bedford's education story: it was the first of the city's three modern middle schools to open. When New Bedford replaced its aging junior high buildings in the early 2000s, Roosevelt led the way, opening in September 2001 in the South End. It carried the Roosevelt name forward from the original South End junior high it replaced, ushering in a new era of purpose-built middle schools for the district.
