Living in Westport, Massachusetts: Country Roads, Coastal Beauty & Room to Breathe
Rural New England Meets the Coast
Westport sits on the South Coast of Massachusetts along the Rhode Island border, and it offers something hard to find in one place, rural New England character and coastal living together. Some parts of town are rural, with larger parcels, wooded properties, and long stretches of country road. Other sections feel more residential, and toward Westport Point the coastal character takes over.
I'm Sheri Francis with BOLD Real Estate, and some of my earliest memories are of driving through Westport's country roads as a kid, noticing the open land, the stone walls, and the farms. That landscape is still one of the things I appreciate most about the town.
Homes, Farms, and the Land Itself
Westport offers capes, ranches, colonials, newer construction, country properties with acreage, and coastal homes, and prices vary substantially based on location, acreage, and proximity to the water. Farms, open fields, stone walls, and farm stands remain part of the town's identity, so it's common to pass working farmland on an ordinary drive through town.
For buyers, it matters to think beyond square footage: what kind of property and lifestyle are you actually after? A country home on several acres is a very different purchase than a home in a more traditional neighborhood.
Beaches and Everyday Coastal Living
Horseneck Beach State Reservation stretches for about two miles along the western end of Buzzards Bay, popular for swimming, walking, and birdwatching, with Gooseberry Island nearby. Having places like these inside your own town means a summer day doesn't require a vacation, just a short drive.
If Westport's country-coastal mix appeals to you, whether you're coming from New Bedford or elsewhere, reach out and I'll show you around.
