What Is It Like Living in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts?
A Town I Work In Every Day
Mattapoisett sits along Buzzards Bay between Fairhaven and Marion, in Plymouth County, with fewer than 7,000 residents. That size is part of the appeal: it doesn't feel like a suburb that happens to have a coastline, it feels like a coastal town, harbor, village, older homes, and all.
My real estate office is right here in Mattapoisett. I'm Sheri Francis with BOLD Real Estate, and although I work with buyers and sellers across the South Coast, I spend a lot of time in this town, and heading toward the village and seeing the harbor still reminds me how beautiful this part of Massachusetts is.
The Harbor, Ned's Point, and the Village
You can't describe Mattapoisett without talking about Mattapoisett Harbor, boats, harbor views, and everyday activity around the village. Ned's Point Lighthouse, overlooking Buzzards Bay, is one of the town's most recognizable landmarks, and it's the kind of place that tells you something about a town a listing never could.
New Bedford is known for its whaling-era homes, and Mattapoisett has its own maritime history and architectural character, connected but distinct. Homes here range from classic older New England properties to newer construction, with prices shaped by location, condition, and proximity to the water.
Schools and Everyday Life
Mattapoisett runs its own public schools through grade 6, Center School for preschool through grade 3 and Old Hammondtown School for grades 4 through 6, with students then entering the Old Rochester Regional School District for grades 7 through 12. I'd always encourage families to check the latest Massachusetts school report cards directly rather than relying on general rankings.
If Mattapoisett has caught your attention, I'd love to show you around in person. Reach out anytime.
