Betsey B. Winslow Elementary carries the name of Betsy Baldwin Winslow, a devoted New Bedford educator whose influence on the community spanned nearly four decades. Over 39 years in education, the longest-serving term in the district until 2015. Miss Winslow became known for her dedication to her students and her tireless advocacy for women and children in New Bedford. She also served as an active member of the New Bedford School Committee, helping shape the very district her namesake school belongs to today. In a rare honor, she became the first living person to have a school named after her.
That spirit still defines the school. Its playful motto "Buzzing with Curiosity, Kindness & Excellence" captures the warm, close knit environment that families in the neighborhood have come to love.
