About the Park
The Andrea McCoy Recreation Center is the city's indoor gathering place for recreation — open to New Bedford residents and non-residents alike, and built around the idea that youth, families and adults should have somewhere to learn, move and support each other year-round.
Programming spans art, music, exercise and sports for all ages and abilities, and runs on a seasonal schedule with fresh offerings each spring, summer, fall and winter.

A bit of history
The center carries the name of Andrea McCoy, a well-loved local athlete and coach whose life was cut short in 1980. Naming the city's recreation hub in her memory keeps her connection to New Bedford's young athletes alive.
The building itself has been reinvented. Once a decommissioned armory gymnasium, it was extensively renovated into a modern community space and officially reopened in February 2012 with a new gymnasium floor, a stage, and full ADA accessibility throughout. In 2014, the city added an enrichment center in the basement, creating dedicated space for afterschool programs and activities.
Today the center hosts year-round youth and adult sports clinics, fitness classes, and community events — free to city residents, and open to everyone.
